The Northrop Bruins’ season came to an end in the sectional semi-finals last night after a 47-67 loss to the North Side Legends.

Northrop came out flat, scoring five points in the first quarter. They picked it up in the second and went into halftime down 19-26. Jaylen Butz had a huge first half for North Side with 15 points. Northrop’s Richard Robertson ended the half with 9, including a buzzer-beating three.

The Legends jumped all over Northrop out of the break, outscoring the Bruins 19-7 in the third quarter. North Side continued their high-scoring play in the fourth and cruised to a 67-47 victory.

Entering the game, Robertson needed 22 points to reach 1,000 for his career. With 21 points in the books and under a minute remaining, he hit a three to reach 1,002. The crowd went crazy as Robertson was given a special announcement along with a standing ovation. Robertson’s 24 points led all scorers in the contest.

Darius Craig chipped in 11 for the Bruins. North Side’s Jaylen Butz led the team with 21 points, dropping 8 of 9 from the field. Keion Brooks and Juan Quarles added 18 and 12 respectively.

“The seniors did a great job for us all year,” says Northrop head coach, Rod Chamble. “They really set us up to have a great experience next year.”

The Legends will play Snider in the sectional championship tonight at 7 pm.
