The Northrop Bruins hosted both Wayne’s girls and boys teams last night and came away with two wins.

The girls set the tone early for Northrop, dominating Wayne 73-15. The boys followed up with a good game to watch.

The first half was a back-and-forth affair as neither team seemed too eager to take control. It wasn’t until the third quarter when the Bruins exploded, outscoring Wayne 16-4 in the quarter. Northrop’s Richard Robertson took matters into is own hands, scoring bucket after bucket to propel the Bruins to a big lead.

“We’re so used to being in close games it’s different for us when we’re up more,” said Northrop head coach, Rod Chamble.

The Generals mounted a furious comeback in the fourth quarter, playing smothering defense and going off for 23 points. It wouldn’t be enough, however, as Northrop held strong and sunk their free throws late to earn a 53-47 win.

“It boosts our confidence going into our next game,” says Robertson. “Overall as a team we’re feeling much better about ourselves and we’re more confident.”

Robertson had an impressive line, shooting 11-19 from the field, 3-5 from deep, and 9-11 from the free throw line. He led all scorers with 34 points.

Northrop’s next game is Friday, January 27 at home against Homestead.
