Five Reasons Why Thanksgiving Can Be Annoying

Thanksgiving: some people look forward to it, others dread it and would rather be performing their normal, everyday routines. Here are five reasons why Thanksgiving can be annoying.

#1: Black Friday

Black Friday is the following day after Thanksgiving and also the most anticipated event of the holiday season other than the usual last-minute Christmas shopping in December. People tend to focus more on Black Friday deals than spending time with family and in some cases Black Friday can start as early as Thanksgiving.

#2: Having to spend time with your family on one day

Back then, we looked forward to going over to grandma or auntie’s house, spending time with our family members. Now as teenagers, our friends are our family and we’d rather be at home spending time on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc. or video games over break. Kids these days are into their electronic devices more than ever during the holiday season.

#3: It’s the holiday between Halloween and Christmas

Thanksgiving is the holiday between Halloween and Christmas. Thanksgiving is nowadays a less anticipated holiday because it doesn’t involve presents like Christmas, nor costumes like Halloween. It’s just food and family.

#4: The annual Thanksgiving football games

The football games on Thanksgiving use to be fun and exciting, but nowadays they don’t exactly live up to their hype. Especially if you are not a big sports aficionado, you’ll definitely not be looking forward to Thanksgiving sporting events.

#5: The repetitive food selections

Every year at grandma’s or auntie’s, the food selections are the same every year. There are the greens, beans, mashed potatoes, macaroni and cheese, ham, and you can’t forget the turkey. If you’re a picky eater, you probably won’t be eating any of the food, but rather bring your own food to snack on.

There you have it, these are 5 reasons why Thanksgiving can be annoying. On behalf of the What’s Bruin Newspaper staff, we hope you have a wonderful well-deserved Thanksgiving break!
