The defending state champion Snider Panthers celebrated Homecoming last night with a 54-3 win over the Northrop Bruins in the biggest rivalry in the SAC.

Snider opened up the scoring with a touchdown run from Christian Covington followed by another from Mac Hippenhammer. Northrop reached the red zone late in the first quarter, but their scoring threat was put to rest when the Panthers forced and recovered a fumble.

The second quarter consisted of another Covington touchdown, a Panther pick-six, and two Panther field goals. Snider  went into the half with a comfortable 33-0 lead.

The Panthers added two more scores in the third with a touchdown run by quarterback Michael Haupert and another interception return. Heading into the fourth quarter, Snider had the game well in hand, leading 47-0.

Money Woods scored once more for the Panthers in the fourth. Northrop avoided the shutout with a field goal to make the final score 54-3.

Covington led the way for Snider with two touchdowns.

Northrop’s next game is senior night, Friday, October 7 hosting North Side.
