Bruin Defense Continues to Struggle Despite High Scoring Offense

The Northrop Bruins hosted the Bishop Luers Knights on Homecoming night last night and fell 49-63.

Luers got it going early with the first of many touchdowns from J’Lyn Charlton. After a Northrop score to tie things up, the Knights scored twice more to go up by 14. Each team would reach the end zone one more time with Luers leading 28-14 after the first quarter.

The Bruins opened up the scoring in the second quarter with a deep hook-and-ladder play from Garrett Schoenle to Gavin Schoenle to Keishon Edwards. The rest of the quarter went back-and-forth. The Knights led at the half 42-28.

The Bruins and Knights each scored two more touchdowns in the third, making it 56-42 going into the fourth with Luers on top.

Luers held on to their lead and eventually put away Northrop 63-49. Charlton shined for the Knights, rushing for five touchdowns. Tyreeon Hambright also was a big contributor to the win, scoring three times, twice on the ground and once through the air. Garrett Schoenle passed for four touchdowns and ran for one for the Bruins. Edwards scored twice and had two interceptions.

Darius Craig and Ally Buchs were named Homecoming king and queen before the game.

Northrop’s next game is Friday, September 30 against rival Snider at Spuller Stadium.
