The Northrop Bruins kicked off their football season tonight at Homestead with a 28-41 loss to the Spartans.

The first half of the contest was uneventful. Homestead went into halftime up 14-0, getting rushing touchdowns from Jordan Presley and Drew Keszei.

Northrop struck first in the second half with a touchdown run from quarterback, Garrett Schoenle. The Spartans answered with a score of their own to make it 21-7 going into the fourth quarter.

The final quarter of play was when things got interesting. Homestead scored twice to start off the quarter. Keishon Edwards answered the call for the Bruins, returning a kickoff all the way to the end zone. Northrop would score two more times in the quarter, but Homestead’s offense was too much, as the Spartans cruised to a 41-28 victory.

Four different Spartans reached the end zone, with Presley and Brayden Layton leading the way with two apiece. Schoenle led the Bruins with three touchdowns, one through the air and two on the ground.

Northrop will host South Side next Friday, August 26 for their home opener.
