The Northrop Bruins hosted the Kokomo WildKats tonight in their last regular season game of the year and celebrated their team’s senior night, honoring Jagger Surface, Michael Chapman, and Ethan Thomas. Unfortunately, the Bruin seniors weren’t able to go out with a bang, as they fell to Kokomo 57-71.

The WildKats jumped out to an enormous first quarter lead, scoring 18 points and holding Northrop to just 3. The Bruins couldn’t get anything to fall and they had many sloppy turnovers.

“We need to turn up the intensity early and start with as much energy as possible,” said Northrop head coach, Rod Chamble.

Northrop picked it up in the second quarter and went into halftime behind 23-34. Jordan Matthews led Kokomo at the half with 15 points. Surface led the Bruins with 14.

Northrop was never able to make up enough ground, and Kokomo cruised to a 71-57 victory. Matthews led the WildKats in scoring with 28. Surface led all scorers with 34.

Northrop’s next game is Tuesday, March 1 against East Noble in the first round of sectionals.

“Everyone starts off 0-0,” says Chamble. “We have to finish one game at a time.”
