The Marion Giants visited Northrop tonight and defeated the Bruins 62-39.

Richard Robertson propelled Northrop to an early lead, scoring 13 of the Bruins’ 14 first quarter points. The game was deadlocked at 23 going into halftime.

Marion’s defense learned from their first half mistakes, as they shut down Robertson and held Northrop to just 4 third quarter points. Tim Leavell heated it up in the third, and led the Giants to a 12 point lead heading into the fourth quarter.

“We were focused on defense and we closed out,” says Marion Head Coach James Blackmon. “Our 1-3-1 zone made them take tough shots.”

The Giants kept piling on points with a fast paced offense and continued to play tough defense, which led Marion to the victory.

“Everyone needs to be popping on all cylinders,” says Northrop assistant coach Wadner Joseph. “Players get tired and it’s hard to sustain a high energy level.”

Leavell led the Giants in scoring with 20. Robertson led the Bruins with 20 of his own.

Northrop’s next game is Tuesday, February 9 hosting Concordia.
