The Northrop girls’ basketball season is about to begin and the Bruins are coming in young and confident.

“We have a  young and experienced group. We have lots of freshman who played last year so there we will be a lot of sophomores on the varsity team this year,” says the lady Bruins basketball coach, Andrew Wyss. “Our athletic vision is to be an improved team.”

This will be Wyss’ fourth year coaching varsity basketball and his 10th year coaching. Last year he coached Northrop to a 1-19 record.

“ We are looking to improve our statistical categories, especially free throw shooting and turnovers,” says Wyss. “ We are looking to improve the way we foul. We want the habits of a running team.”

The Bruins have 1 senior returning who played on last year’s team in Khaila Judy, but they also have three all-conference players returning in Bre Douglas, Niomi Dube, and Arelle Thatcher.

The SAC will be a tough conference this year with Homestead and Carroll being added.

“The SAC is open,” said Wyss.

With a young squad coming into the new season, the team will get more experienced as the season goes on and their chemistry will improve. Coach Wyss has faith in his lady Bruins and so does the rest of Northrop High School. Come out and support the Bruins as Northrop tips off their season at home this Saturday, November 7.
