Freshman Dustin Starnes finished 40th at the Boys Cross Country Semistate on Saturday at IPFW. Starnes unfortunately did not qualify for the state Cross Country.

Zachery Panning from Concordia placed 1st for the boys and Maddie Woods from Penn finished in 1st for the girls. This was the last meet of the cross country season for the Boys Cross Country team.

The Semi-State meet was cold but not rainy unlike the last three meets where it was pouring rain and freezing.

Dustin stayed with the top 30 for a majority of the race but fell behind sometimes. The fastest boy runner was Zachery Panning with at time of 15:19 minutes. The girl’s race started at 1:45pm, and ended around 2:15pm with the last runner having a time of 27:15. The fastest Girl runner was Maddie Woods with a time of 18:10 minutes.

Starnes is a freshman in High school and is the top runner in Northrop’s Cross Country Team. Dustin ran a 16:52 minute 5k in the boys Semi-State meet. Dustin ran as an individual runner because he placed in the top 20 at regionals last weekend.

No Northrop runner has moved on to Semi-State in boys cross for the last three years. Dustin broke that pattern when he placed 20th in regionals and moved on to Semi-State.

Most of the boys Cross Country runners have started to train for their winter sport. For most of the runners this will be winter track, but a few runners are joining the swim team or simply taking the winter off. After winter sports are over almost the entire team will do spring track.
