Speech Season Officially Starts

Saturday October 12th marked the first meet for Speech and Debate Teams this season.

Hosted by Northrop, the meet was aimed towards novices and newcomers. Instead of the usual three rounds and a final, the meet held five straight rounds to give the novices practice and the experience to become better. Ms. Archbold returns as speech coach this season and her English class participated in the competition.

No team awards were given because the season was just beginning and the tournament did go smoothly and efficiently.

The individual awards were:

  • Courtney Carpenter received 4th in Novice Broadcasting.
  • Erica Green received 3rd received Novice Broadcasting.
  • Keana Price received 5th in Novice Discussion.
  • Hailey Richards received 4th in Novice Discussion.
  • Chandler Crowder received 3rd in Novice Discussion.
  • Lillian Love-Burnett received 3rd in Novice Prose.
  • Lubna Naureen received 1st in Novice Original Oratory.
  • Andrew Reigelman received 2nd in Novice International Extemporaneous Speaking.
  • Christopher Gatewood received 2nd in Novice Original Performance.
  • Zachary Jordan received 3rd in Novice Original Performance.
  • Hailey Richards and Keana Price¬†received 2nd in Novice Scripted Duo.
  • Cecilia Frankewich received 2nd in Novice Declamation.
  • Chandler Crowder received 4th in Novice Impromptu.

The next Speech and Debate meet is Saturday at Carroll High School. It will also be a novice meet like the one Northrop held.
