BOP Bound for Bluffton

The Big Orange Pride travels to Bluffton on Saturday for their first regular season band competition. Under the direction of John VanPatten and Drum Majors Caleb Novell and Savannah Barron, the band is excited to start a  new season with an all new show.

This year, the band presents “Crossroads” to the public. As the name implies, this show describes a turning point for the band. To move forward, they must all look through the past, and set their eyes on the prize; a bright and successful future.

If you follow the band (@MarchingBOP) on Twitter, I will be live-tweeting the event. If you do not follow the band on Twitter, a follow-up article on the band competition will appear on this website early next week with results and reactions from the Class A competition.

The band practices from 3-5 every weekday after school, except Thursdays, where they rehearse from 3-8. The band members wake up early on Saturdays to meet at school before the big performance. After a morning rehearsal, they load the trailer and pile onto the yellow buses to ride to their competition. It is not uncommon for the band to roll back into Northrop’s parking lot past midnight. This routine continues for many weeks, until the Semi and State competitions later in the year. The hope is that the BOP receives the chance to perform at both of these final competitions. These students work so hard, doing what they love. “What are we?! BOP!”
