Teenagers: Killing time…and people?

Yep, the title says it all ladies and gentlemen! From the main headline for the Washington Post reads that “3 Okla. Teens charged in death of Australian baseball player, who is mourned on 2 continents.” (CNN story on the shooting)

Australian Chris Lane was murdered in Oklahoma this week. Three teens have been charged with the slaying.

Australian Chris Lane was murdered in Oklahoma this week. Three teens have been charged with the slaying.

It was on August 16, 22-year-old Christopher Lane of Melbourne, Australia was shot and killed in Duncan, Okla., By three teenagers whose names are withheld, and whose ages consist of 15, 16 and 17.
The weapon that killed Mr. Lane was a .22 Caliber revolver, and was shot once in the back (Exactly where on the back  is not explained)
The two younger “thugs” are being tried for as adults with no bond and both are charged with first-degree murder, The oldest of the three will be charged with discharging a firearm, driving the vehicle used and first-degree murder, and will be placed under a $1 million bond.

The alleged motive for killing Mr. Lane was “for the fun of it.”

So…this is finally how it has to be played? Generation Y, the “thug” life generation must now in order to pass the time, kill innocent people “For the fun of it.” What ever happened to playing video games, shooting hoops, spending quality time with family, relaxing with friends, or even (how about this)…sleeping? Apparently shooting and killing the innocent must be a new quality time for some teens, it sickens me.
And to make an insult to injury, this excerpt from the Huffington Post from what the former deputy prime minister had to say:

“Tim Fischer, former Australia deputy prime minister, criticized the National Rifle Association and asked Australians to avoid the U.S. as a way to put pressure on its Congress to act on gun control.

“Tourists thinking of going to the USA should think twice,” Fischer told the Herald Sun. “I am deeply angry about this because of the callous attitude of the three teenagers, (but) it’s a sign of the proliferation of guns on the ground in the USA. There is a gun for almost every American.”

And that, what Tim Fischer had to say, I’m on his side.

With the violent crimes relating to firearm accidents, deaths spreading like wildfire and the accessibility of said guns, (gun-shows do not require background check or psychiatric check.) and how Most areas of media (music, television, and games) give the idea “guns are OK.” It scares me deep down inside knowing that since this incident happened that more people, with similar consciences, will follow suit.

…but after all it is the, how do the kids say it “Thug Life”?

They had to have gotten the gun illegally, you have to be 18 years old to own a gun at the least, at least 21 in order to have a handgun.
