Rumors have been going around Northrop a lot lately; especially with the drama happening in the school. On a daily basis I hear more than I need to know about people I don’t know. Don’t get me wrong, I love to hear about drama in other people’s lives like the next person, but sometimes it’s ENOUGH! I really don’t care about how people’s love life’s are going or that girl who said you were “ratchet” during lunch. In 10 years will it really matter what they said anyways?

Rumors, how many of us have them? Photo by Nigel Kilby

I believe as a school rumors has been pretty bad lately. I also think the more they are spread around, the more problems it creates between people. The he said, she said stuff has been going on for as long as I can remember, but shouldn’t it get old by now? I mean most of us are 16 and older, we are old enough to know that gossip is immature. I think its time for people to start acting their age instead of acting like middle schooler’s. I believe that we can do this if we really wanted to, but the likelihood of that is very slim. I must say though it would resolve a lot of issues between the people in a high school. Just think about it, if people stopped the rumors I bet a lot of people wouldn’t fight. People may even learn to become friends after not being friends because of rumors.

All I’m saying is that if we learn to get along with each other more, it would be worth it. I bet most of you can think of a relationship that was ruined because of rumors; isn’t it pretty pointless? I know first hand how unfair it is to lose someone like that. We still, to this day, don’t talk. The rumors spread about each other were so bad that we could never work it out; this happens more than you think. All I ask of you, who are reading this, take a step back and ask yourself is it really worth it? More times than not I am going to say no it’s not worth ruining a relationship.

Here are some ways that we all could avoid spreading and starting rumors:

  1. When you hear someone say something bad about another person, even if it is your friend, it is best to not spread the rumor around. This can avoid people getting hurt and fights that are unnecessary.
  2. Don’t say things about someone who isn’t true. This will only cause drama in your life and false accusations are never good.
  3. ” An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind.” Just because someone does you wrong, does not mean you should do the other person the same way. Keep your head up and act like the bigger person.
  4. Lastly, if you have beef with someone and have for a long time, what’s the point in bringing it back up over and over. Why not just let it be and get on with your life? 5 years from now is this drama really gonna matter anyway? The answer to that, hopefully, is no. So go live your life for now, don’t let high school drama hold you back.
